The role of a Neurodiversity Workplace Needs (NWN) Assessor.

Neurodiversity Workplace Needs (NWN) Assessors are professionals trained to evaluate and support the specific needs of neurodivergent individuals in the workplace. Their role involves conducting comprehensive assessments to identify challenges and recommend reasonable adjustments to help neurodivergent employees thrive.

Here are some key aspects of their work:

  1. Assessment: They assess an individual's workplace challenges, considering factors like job role, daily tasks & processes, working environment and current equipment.

  2. Recommendations: Based on the assessment, they provide a detailed report with recommendations for workplace adjustments (commonly referred to as ‘reasonable adjustments’). These can include assistive technology, specialist equipment, training on specialist equipment and strategy coaching.

  3. Training and Support: NWN Assessors often work with HR, Learning & Development, and Diversity & Inclusion teams to ensure that the recommended adjustments are implemented effectively. They may also provide training to managers and colleagues to foster a supportive work environment.

  4. Qualifications: Graduates of the NWN Assessor Programme hold the OCN Level 4 – Fundamentals in Workplace Assessment for Neurodiversity. In their studies they work to gain foundation understanding of the traits, characteristics, and workplace challenges commonly experienced by neurodivergent individuals in the workplace.
